More Giving & More Learning: Marshalltown Education Partnership

Mep Donation

May 31, 2011

In Iowa, JBS recently donated $100,000 to the Marshalltown Education Partnership, which provides Marshalltown Community College scholarships to first-generation students in the area.

“Perhaps the most important part of this donation is that it gives us the ability to help a lot of people who wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to further their education past high school,” said Troy Mulgrew, general manager at the Marshalltown plant. Troy notes that the donation is not only “an opportunity to touch people from many walks of life with a very positive future,” it’s also the Marshalltown plant’s way of giving thanks to the city.

According to Marshalltown’s Times Republican, nearly 75 percent of the students in the program have one or both parents employed at JBS, and the JBS donation brings the current campaign to $749,381 – getting close to its goal of $1 million.
