JBS Logistics Adds to Carriers Service Capabilities
June 6, 2011
JBS Carriers will have another way to serve customers — as well as an additional revenue source — when the doors to JBS Logistics open June 6.
The new entity, located in Gainesville, Ga., is a value-added service in that it gives JBS another service outlet and profit center, and also diversifies
the company a bit more.
According to Todd Gooch, Director of Dedicated and Logistics, opening a logistics office was a crucial step in making JBS Carriers even more competitive. “If we’ve got 500 trucks, but potentially 600 loads to be hauled, then we will find other carriers or transportation providers to handle those extra 100 loads,” Gooch said.
JBS Logistics will contract with shippers, JBS sister companies and outside manufacturers to transport their products. If the JBS Carriers fleet doesn’t have
exactly the right kind of truck to move a product, Logistics will track down a
transportation company that does have the right kind of vehicle and contract
with them to move whatever product needs to be moved.
"JBS has refrigerated trucks, but this will open up a whole new potential revenue source to offer our services to flatbed shippers, dry truck shippers and so on,” Gooch said.
It also gives JBS Carriers more options in terms of moving the products created by our sister companies, he said.
Neil Satterfield, Logistics Manager, will run the Gainesville operation, which will initially employ a staff of 6. Gooch estimates that number will increase to 12 by the end of 2011.
